Naval parade in Fuengirola

For the last week the minesweeper ‘Tajo’ has been the in the Fuengirola harbour and open to visits by the public. It has been a fun and unique week. Last Sunday the aircraft carrier “Príncipe de Asturias” took the lead role in a simulated hostage rescue.

The aircraft carrier, a frigate (I believe) and three helicopters demonstrated the skills needed in conflict zones. “Tauroland”, an imaginary land, was the site of a battle between the navy and terrorist who were holding hostages. Multiple rescue teams arrived by helicopters and attacked the enemy positions using smoke bombs for cover. They quickly located the hostages and led them to safety. This was followed by some aerial acrobatics by harrier jets. All very cool and very different from the usual events in Fuengirola.

To end it off, on Friday naval band took part in a parade accompanied by a squadron from the “Tajo” along the Paseo Maritimo of Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol. The event will end on Saturday when, the Mayor, Esperanza Oña presides over the presentation to the “Tajo” of its battle ensign.

Luckily I managed to take some photos when the parades passed our office.
