A rainy october

Well for once the refrain “the rain in spain mostly falls on the plain” does not hold much water. This October has been the rainiest since 2003!

According to the Mediterranean Water Authority and the State Meteorological Agency meters an average of 134 litres per square metre of rainfall was registered during the month in the province. In October 2007, the figure was 52.5 litres per square metre.

Last Friday (the last day of October) 130 litres were deposited in just 12 hours in some areas of the Costa del Sol. The areas that suffered the heaviest downpour were Marbella and Estepona at 134, With Ronda coming in third at 100 litres. And on a more hopeful note 80 litres per square metre fell in the La Viñuela area which means that for the first time in months water levels rose in the reservoir.

Malaga itself suffered rain for a total of eleven days in the month. But for anyone reading this don’t despair, it looks like the likelihood of rain over the next week will decrease steadily. But then again who believe the weather man?
